Discover the vibrant energy of Eugowra’s dramatic natural landscape, rich resources, bushranger history and eclectic events. Located in the Lachlan River Basin, Eugowra is a picturesque town nestled along the Mandagery Creek.
Eugowra is located in the heart of bushranger country and is most famous for Australia’s biggest gold robbery. Frank Gardiner’s gang held up the Ford & Co coach from Forbes to Orange at Escort Rock (approximately 4.5kms north of the township). The bushrangers stole 14,000 pounds Sterling worth of gold and cash. Only a portion was ever recovered which resulted in the development of a strong folk law surrounding the missing loot. The unique history and flavour of the town have been immortalised in murals throughout the town and the Historical Museum and Bushranger Centre.
The town is rich in community involvement and energy. Eugowra has a number of highly successful events including the Spring Racing Carnival and Canola Cup. Eugowra is a great base for exploring the natural wonders of the area including Nangar National Park, Back Yamma State Forest, the Mandagery Creek and the Lachlan River. The town’s uniquely imposing large granite boulders were used for the construction of the new Parliament House and were supplied by the local Granite Mill. The town is well known for cattle, timber, feed and hay production.
The town is home to a number of talented professionals. It is serviced by a new well-appointed hospital with aged care accommodation, town pool run by the community, Primary and Catholic schools, day-care/preschool, function venue, traditional country style pub, bowling club, café, supermarket, highly popular butcher, hairdressers and a few well regarded specialty stores. People travel from around the region to enjoy the talents of a number of Eugowra’s retailers.
